His obituary in The Scotsman (copied by other papers) says:"THE LATE MR STEWART, OF KIRKMICHAEL.- The death is announced of Mr Stewart , of Kirkmichael, Perthshire, at the age of seventy-one. The deceased gentleman was widely-known throughout the north of Scotland for the intense interest he took in the great revival movements there. He devoted his time, strength, and means wherever he felt he could do most good, and was especially interested in the work amongst the crofters and fishermen in Tiree , where he was the means of getting a church built, and in Harris, where he promoted missions, which had much success. The deceased gentleman , who died unmarried, was the eldest surviving son of the late Donald Stewart, of Luskeyntyre, and was the nearest male representative of the ancient family of the Stewarts of Garth (the male line having terminated in the late 'General David Stewart of Garth, the well-known author of the History of the Highland Regiments, &c.. Mr Stewart leaves one surviving brother, Mr John Stewart of Ensay." He also testified to the Napier Commission and contradicted many of the claims against his father. In comparative mitigation, Donald Stewart did not own South Park. But as you and I know, it is the underlings that did their worst. Flunkies? I think they were only too happy to do the dirty work. <br />Thanks again.ADBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17737746983905368038noreply@blogger.com
